The Boston Bruins have acquired forward Lee Stempniak from the New Jersey Devils

The Boston Bruins have traded a 2016 fourth round pick and a 2017 second round pick to the New Jersey Devils in exchange for forward Lee Stempniak. Stempniak is a free agent after this season and is the Devils leading scorer this season with 16 goals and 25 assists for 41 points.

Boston paid a bit of a premium for Stempniak, but it certainly helps them win now. With the team constructed as is, that’s very important. Stempniak can play on any forward line and provide valuable scoring depth. That’s hard to come by in the playoffs. Expect him to join either their second or third forward line.

He might even get some time on the first line with Patrice Bergeron and Brad Marchand. That dynamic duo have done special things with far less talented players.

The New Jersey Devils come out of this looking great. Considering that they signed him to a PTO in the offseason and committed very little money to him, that’s a fantastic return. The Devils get some valuable draft picks as they continue to rebuild their barren farm system.

Stempniak will be joining his ninth NHL team.
