The Oakland Raiders have quietly positioned themselves to have a fantastic 2016 NFL campaign. Though the Raiders have not made the AFC Playoffs since 2002, Oakland already has a strong group of young players to build their team around and will have over $70 million to aggressively pursue top free agents this spring.

Under head coach Jack Del Rio, the Raiders will do their best to fight for an AFC Wild Card spot in 2016 with key players like quarterback Derek Carr, wide receiver Amari Cooper, and outside linebacker Khalil Mack.

As the Raiders’ offense seems well on its way to being successful, Oakland still has some hole on the defensive side of the ball, especially in the secondary. Not only will the Raiders lose a future Hall of Famer in their secondary in Charles Woodson’s retirement, but Oakland was already one of the worst pass defense teams in the NFL in 2015. The Raiders allowed 4,140 yards through the air, seventh worst in the NFL.

One possible solution for the Raiders to become more competitive in defending the pass is to bring an elite shutdown corner like Josh Norman of the Carolina Panthers to pair alongside D.J. Hayden on the outside.

Oakland already has one star on the defensive side of the ball in Mack. Since the Raiders have an absurd amount of cap space and a serious need to upgrade the secondary this offseason, does it make sense for Norman to leave Charlotte and begin the next stage of his career in the AFC West by signing with the Raiders?

The Raiders would be willing to give him more money than most and the franchise has its best roster in going on 15 years in 2016. Norman also does have a bit of the swash-buckling swagger often associated with the all-time greats that have played for the Raiders. He’d look pretty swell in Silver and Black.
