2. New York Giants

Cap space: $58.443 million

Why he fits: New York has a ton of money to burn and general manager Jerry Reese has to make some moves. The Giants fired head coach Tom Coughlin this offseason because the team was not making strides and now former offensive coordinator Ben McAdoo is now running the show. Reese would be wise to address the defense and take some pressure off McAdoo, who undoubtedly will be focused on the other side of the ball.

With New York potentially losing defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul to free agency, Reese might want a pass-rusher of the two-handed variety. Last year, the Giants were only able to generate 23 sacks with Robert Ayers pacing the club at 9.5. Williams would immediately upgrade a unit that could be the difference in 2016.

Why it doesn’t work: The Giants are close to being a playoff team but should realize that the right move is to get younger. Should Reese go that way, Williams might not be in the cards. Williams is 31 years old and might only have another two or three good years left in him before retirement. Reese might limit himself to players entering the sweet spot of their careers, and that would leave Williams out of the Big Apple.
