NFL Free Agency: 5 teams that should look at Kirk Cousins

No. 2 Denver Broncos
It is very rare that a team wins the super bowl and is unclear who will be under center next season. In the Denver Broncos case, Peyton Manning’s assumed retirement and backup quarterback, Brock Osweiler‘s pending free agency may leave Denver quarterback-less.
If the team is unable, or unwilling to resign Brock Osweiler then Cousins very likely could be the team’s next starting quarterback. Brock Osweiler played in a handful of games this year after Manning went down with an injury. In the games that he played, he helped led his team to a victory over the New England Patriots. Furthermore, just like most young players, he had an up and down slate of games.
Osweiler’s streakiness was to be expected, but that still does not excuse his occasional poor play. If Osweiler had played lights out consistently, then the Broncos could have easily locked him up long-term already. Now, the Broncos have to evaluate Osweiler potential based off of game tape from less than half of a season of games.
The biggest issue with the Broncos resigning Osweiler is the difficulty that they will have in determining his value. Since they ultimately do not know how good of a player he is, the team will not want to over pay the quarterback. If the Broncos lowball Osweiler, then it is expected he will elect to become a free agent.
This is where Kirk Cousins comes into play. Cousins and the Redskins are in a similar situation to what the Broncos and Osweiler are facing. If both Cousins and Osweiler make it free agency, expect teams to value Cousins more. While both players are young and do not have a wealth of game film, Cousins played exceptionally this year and has more experience.
If the Broncos have an opportunity to get either player, expect them to chase the former Michigan State Spartan, Cousins as their next signal caller.
