No. 1 New York Jets

The New York Jets came so close to making the playoffs last year. They were one win short, as they lost an emotional game to the Buffalo Bills in Week 17.

However, despite the team’s overall good season, there are concerns at the quarterback position. The Jets had solid play from their starting quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick for most of the season. There were parts of the season though, where the Jets lost games directly due to Fitzpatrick’s mistakes.

Moving forward, if the Jets wish to move themselves firmly into contender status then they will need consistent production from their signal caller. Considering Fitzpatrick’s age and his ability to lose must-win games it would not be a bad idea to move on from him.

One obvious alternative would be signing Cousins.

The Jets would be an excellent place for Cousins to play. The team uses a quick striking offensive playbook that would perfectly suit Cousins’ tendency to throw short, tight passes that allow his receivers space to make plays. Additionally, Cousins has a little more firepower in his right arm than Fitzpatrick, which would open up the Jets’ vertical passing game- something they struggled to do last year.

Furthermore, by signing Cousins that would allow the team to use draft picks on filling other positions of need such as running back and offensive line.

Cousins would not come cheap, but neither do most quarterbacks. The past couple of seasons the rest of the AFC East has been getting better. It appears that Miami and Buffalo have their quarterbacks. Can New York get its man?
