The Lions have been a popular landing spot for a free-falling Laquon Treadwell, and Detroit is left fairly barren at wide receiver with the abrupt retirement of Calvin Johnson. With that said, offense has rarely been the biggest issue for this particular organization, and the Lions could use an influx of talent on the defensive line, especially given that Detroit is facing free agent decisions on three of their defensive tackles from the 2015 season.

Jarran Reed is seen by many as the other defensive tackle from Alabama, with teammate A’Shawn Robinson generating the lion’s share of attention. However, Reed is a monstrous run-stuffer at 6-foot-3 and 311 pounds, and the Lions really need that type of player in the event that Haloti Ngata gets away in free agency.

Linebacker and offensive line would be two additional positions that Detroit could look to address here, but for me, it would be a decision between Reed and Louisville defensive tackle Sheldon Rankins. Rankins brings a higher upside to the table, but Reed is unquestionably safer, and his production level at Alabama suggests that he could add a bit of pass-rush and disruption to his profile as a quality defender against the run.
.
