5 free agency destinations for Andre Drummond
By John Buhler
The Boston Celtics are slowly becoming a great team under head coach Brad Stevens. While they have a ton of interesting assets in terms of draft picks and young emerging players, the Celtics have yet to find themselves a new star player in the post-Big Three/Four era in Boston.
While pursuing a prototypical center in free agency may not seem like the most logical need for the Celtics under Stevens, could it be possible that signing a great free agent big man in Andre Drummond can turn this era of Celtics basketball into a perennial contender in the Eastern Conference?
Though Drummond has little to no range shooting the basketball outside of the paint, he is an absolutely dominating force on the glass, as nobody has done it better since Dennis Rodman in his prime with the Detroit Pistons and the Chicago Bulls.
Stevens may like having a terrific defensive big man in Drummond (a career 100 defensive rating), that can anchor his already strong defensive-minded club. While his offensive game may never improve at the free throw line or extend beyond right-handed hook shots in the paint, Drummond has the potential to be the best traditional center in the Eastern Conference since Dwight Howard.
With Drummond on the Celtics, he could be the franchise centerpiece Boston needs to win their 18th, 19th, and even 20th NBA Titles. Keep in mind he’s just entering his prime at 22 years old. Drummond could be something truly special with a great teacher in Stevens as his head coach if he decides to leave the Pistons this summer.
