High Salary C

Karl-Anthony Towns-Minnesota Timberwolves (8,200): There are a ton of expensive center options to pick from tonight with seven players at 7,000 or more. While all of them have plenty of potential (obviously), the play I like the most from the top of the salary structure is the rookie Karl-Anthony Towns who takes on Brook Lopez and the Nets at home tonight in Minnesota.  Towns has at least 40 fantasy points in four of his last seven games and has alternated big games with less inspiring performances over his last six games.  He didn’t have a great night last night against the Bucks finishing with 33.25 fantasy points on 21 points and seven rebounds, but I expect a much bigger game from him tonight since Brooklyn allows the sixth-most fantasy points in the NBA to opposing centers. Towns has put up bigger games at home than on the road, and should pick up good block numbers tonight since so much of the Brooklyn offense flows through Brook Lopez.

Dwight Howard-Houston Rockets (7,900): Howard has probably the best matchup of any of the top centers as he faces the Bulls who have allowed the third-most fantasy points to opposing centers on the season and the ninth-most over their last five games.  Howard has at least 35 fantasy points in each of his last five games including a very nice game with 46.75 fantasy points on Monday against the Bucks when he scored 30 points to go with 13 rebounds.  I think he’ll be over 40 again tonight in his first game of the season against Chicago.

Marcin Gortat-Washington Wizards (6,600): If you don’t have the cash to afford any of the 8K+ options, Gortat is an option that will save you some salary but still be a reliable producer.  One concern is that Gortat has played under 30 minutes in five of his last six games, but he has still managed to produce at least 29 fantasy points in seven of his last ten.  He had 26.25 fantasy points last night with ten points, nine boards, and three blocks in just 25 minutes against the Cavs.  Tonight, the Wizards are in a very important game against the Pacers, so look for Gortat to get more time on the floor and be a good bet for a double-double. He dominated the Sixers on Monday for 18 points, 20 rebounds, five assists, and three blocks while posting a massive 57.5 fantasy points. I doubt he’ll be that productive tonight, but he is a solid option in the mid-range plays if you can’t afford the big names.

Rudy Gobert-Utah Jazz (6,500): Gobert is another midrange play I like a lot tonight coming off a big game last night in Memphis when he totaled 13 points, 18 rebounds, and five blocks for 46.5 fantasy points. He has at least 26 fantasy points in each of his last four games now and in eight of his last ten.  He has scored in double-digits in four straight games with three double-doubles during that span.  He should be in a place to continue his dominance tonight against the Pelicans who allow the second-most fantasy points to opposing centers and will be without both Alexis Ajinca and Omer Asik tonight.
