5 reasons DeMarco Murray trade to the Titans doesn’t work
By Randy Gurzi
1. Dallas ran him into the ground in 2014
Lost in all this discussion about Murray’s rough season is the fact that in 2014, he was run into the ground. During the regular season Murray touted the rock 392 times, plus he had another 57 receptions. That’s a lot of wear and tear on a player.
History is not on the side of a running back who takes such a beating. The phrase “curse of the 370” was coined for a reason, meaning that whenever a back gets the ball more than 370 times in a single season, his career will never be the same.
Running backs like Larry Johnson, Jamaal Anderson, Shaun Alexander and Eddie George all saw significant drops in their production after taking on similar roles for their teams. The Dallas Cowboys knew this and were wise to say goodbye to their running back.
The Eagles and now Titans are ignoring history and not only taking a risk on a player, but paying a huge financial price as well.
In 2015, Murray ran for just 3.64 yards per attempt. He looked slower and wasn’t the player he was the season before. To his credit, he ran hard and gave it all he had. Sadly, all he had was left on the field two seasons ago.
