High Value PG

Elfrid Payton-Orlando Magic (5,700): Payton and the Magic will face the Warriors at possibly the worst time, but Golden State has shown that even when they are at their best they can give up some fantasy points to their opponents especially at PG and C. Payton had 24.5 fantasy points in 29 minutes against the Warriors a couple of weeks ago on 12 points and six assists.  He has played better since then with at least 25 fantasy points in four of his last five games and a very nice 44.5 fantasy points against the Suns on Friday in Orlando’s last game.  Payton had 19 points and 11 assists to go with three steals in 34 minutes in that contest.  He picks up his scoring more when Victor Oladipo is out, but since Oladipo is expected to return look for Payton to return to his role as more of a facilitator than a scorer.  He’s a solid play in the late game, but I would expect 25-30 fantasy points not the 40+ he produced in his last contest. ∗∗

Mario Chalmers-Memphis Grizzlies (4,500): Chalmers continued his recent surge yesterday playing 29 minutes against the Suns and scoring 14 points on his way to 23.75 fantasy points. He has at least that many fantasy points in five straight games and posted an impressive 39 fantasy points against the Jazz on Friday of last week.  He is a little pricey for a backup PG, but he’s getting solid minutes while Tony Allen is sidelined, and I like his matchup against the Cavs. His coming off the bench makes him a little higher risk than some of the other options at a similar price point, but he has nice upside and remains an important piece of Memphis’s new rotation. ∗∗∗ With Conley out-∗∗∗∗∗

Jerryd Bayless-Milwaukee Bucks (4,400): Bayless is getting plenty of time on the floor for Milwaukee with Michael Carter-Williams nursing multiple injuries.  He played 32 minutes yesterday totaling 12 points and six rebounds against the Thunder giving him at least 20 fantasy points in three of his four games since returning from an injury of his own. The Bulls have struggled against opposing PG allowing the seventh-most fantasy points to them so far this season, so Bayless could be a nice value play coming off the bench behind O.J. Mayo who continues to start at PG despite posting very few if any stats in his time on the floor.
