NFL Rumors: 5 free agent destinations for Robert Griffin III
By Josh Hill
Why It Makes Sense: Andy Reid is a quarterback guru, and that’s the main reason you’re going to hear when it comes to connecting RGIII with the Chiefs. But beyond Reid’s ability to mold young quarterbacks, the Chiefs might offer Griffin something other teams with interest might not — comfort.
There will be no pressure for RGIII to start in the near future in Kansas City, but he’ll have the chance to slow down and actually learn a system. Alex Smith won’t be the quarterback forever, and he’s been able to take the Chiefs system and help make them into a Super Bowl contender. Imagine RGIII getting back to his healthy, mobile self, running the Chiefs offense in a few years — that’s dangerous.
Why It Might Not Happen: In all likelihood, Griffin won’t be looking for a same story different font type of situation. He has already sat on the bench far longer than he has wanted to, and signing up for a gig he knows won’t afford him starting chances doesn’t seem ideal.
It’s not that this is a bad fit, it’s just that the Chiefs are ready to contend for the Super Bowl now, and RGIII would be signing up knowing he’d be placed on the back burner — a place he doesn’t want to spend anymore time.
