NFL Rumors: 5 free agent destinations for Robert Griffin III
By Josh Hill
Why It Makes Sense: This has been the dream of NFL fans everywhere ever since it was first remotely mentioned as a possibility. Johnny Manziel is a total non-starter — in more than one way — for the Cowboys which seemingly opens the door to RGIII’s return to Texas. Dallas won’t be drafting a quarterback in the first-round of the draft either which only seems to further suggest that the Cowboys will scoop him up.
Tony Romo is already banged up and the season hasn’t even started yet. This not only means the Cowboys have a need for a solid backup option but also means that Dallas could be the best place for RGIII to get starts. He’d also be behind one of the best offensive fronts in football, which adds to how perfect of a situation this is for him and all involved.
Why It Might Not Happen: Usually, when something is too good to be true — it ain’t. While the prospect of RGIII in Dallas works on paper, it wouldn’t be the first time that a dream pairing didn’t pan out. Remember the Eagles ‘Dream Team’ or how Bill Belichick was going to find a way to fix Tim Tebow?
Just because it’s a good idea doesn’t mean it should or will happen. RGIII would be in a position to succeed in Dallas, but he has been there before and failed. Washington wasn’t ideal but he was the starter and had a chance to work on learning a system and making it work. Instead, he tried to make the system change for him, and the Cowboys don’t need anymore locker room distractions to deal with if RGIII decides to continue going rogue.
