5 reasons DeMarco Murray to the Titans is the best fit
4. Murray will complement their other backs
While the Titans put up poor numbers on the ground last season, the position group isn’t completely devoid of talent. Murray’s addition might mean the end of Sankey’s time in Tennessee, but the other running backs may be able to contribute more without the pressure of being the No. 1 option.
In particular, Murray’s addition will Tennessee’s offense to get a little more dynamic in terms of utilizing its pass-catching backs, Murray doesn’t offer much as a receiving threat out of the backfield, although he was used as such sometimes in Philadelphia. With Murray around as a downhill rushing threat, the Titans can get a little more creative in using Dexter McCluster, who is a good receiving back and big play threat whenever he touches the ball.
Adding Murray will also help the Titans better utilize Andrews’ skill set. While Andrews isn’t a No. 1 caliber back at the moment, as evidenced by Tennessee’s poor numbers last year, he can do a little bit of everything and be a useful role player.
The Titans also have David Cobb on the roster, who showed some upside as a rookie power runner in 2015. Murray’s carries will need to limited as he has a lot of wear and tear from his days in Dallas, giving Cobb a chance to develop as a backup without the pressure of being thrown into a starting role before he his ready.
By adding Murray, the Titans can carve out more defined roles in their offense while better utilizing some of their existing playmakers.
