1. A contending team on the rise

While having to witness largely terrible football for the last decade, fans who have been loyal to Jacksonville Jaguars are about to be in for  one of the best runs in the short history of the franchise. They have unity in the front office, a ton of cap space, high picks in the draft and some great young players in quarterback Blake Bortles, wide receiver Allen Robinson, outside linebacker Telvin Smith and defensive end Dante Fowler, Jr.

If there are two stocks to buy in the AFC entering 2016, it’s the Jaguars and the Oakland Raiders. These two former doormats are almost done being atrocious and will contend in the AFC for the next five years. Who knows, maybe this is a potential AFC Championship matchup before the decade draws to a close.

Jacksonville has wisely decided to build through the draft before targeting free agent signings. Now that general manager David Caldwell and head coach Gus Bradley have a respectable up-and-coming NFL franchise, they can shamelessly overspend to get great free agents to come to their long downtrodden organization in the hopes that they’ll have a winner shortly.

Though it might cost as much as $90 million, if any team was willing to shell out a ton of cash to bring in the right free agent signee for their franchise, it seems that the Jaguars know exactly what they are doing in luring star defensive end Malik Jackson to North Florida.

The rebuilding process in Jacksonville has been brutally painful the last five years, but with players like Jackson agreeing to leave a Super Bowl champion to come to a franchise that hasn’t made the AFC Playoffs in nine years, it speaks volumes about the direction the Jaguars are going in as a football team in 2016. Don’t look now, but this team has the potential to win a ton in the next few seasons in the AFC South.
