High Salary PG

Stephen Curry-Golden State Warriors (10,500): Curry was back with a bang on Monday scoring 41 points to go with 13 rebounds, three assists, and four steals on his way to 72.25 fantasy points as the Warriors beat the Magic after an embarrassing loss to the Lakers in which Curry only managed 30 fantasy points. Curry had run off four straight games over 60 fantasy points before rolling his ankle against OKC and missing a game last Tuesday.  He hadn’t looked fully back until Monday, and I think he’ll be ready to take it to the Jazz tonight who gave the Warriors all they could handle in their meeting earlier this year. Utah is still among the better teams in the NBA against opposing PG, but Shelvin Mack’s arrival has seen a slight increase in the offense from the PG spot with a slight decrease in how much they’ve been able to limit their opponents at that spot. Look for Curry to be just fine in the matchup tonight and light up ORACLE again in what should be a brilliant way to close out a full night of hoops.∗∗∗

Chris Paul-Los Angeles Clippers (9,700): Paul only needed 28 minutes on Monday to pile up 27 points and 49 fantasy points against the Mavericks in a Clippers rout.  He’ll take on Russell Westbrook tonight in a matchup he should be able to exploit since the Thunder are allowing the third-most fantasy points in the NBA to opposing PG. When the two teams met last Wednesday in LA, Paul had 50.5 fantasy points while holding Westbrook to 51.5. Since Paul carries so much of the LA offense and comes in in great form while Russ has been scuffling a bit, I’ll take CP3 over Westbrook in one of the best head-to-head matchups of the night.∗∗∗∗

Kemba Walker-Charlotte Hornets (8,300): Walker hasn’t been as light’s out as the three elite options, but he has quietly been on quite a roll himself lately with at least 40 fantasy points in five of his last six games. He has  53 and 53.25 fantasy points in each of his last two games which were home wins over the Pacers and T-Wolves.  Tonight, he and the Hornets host the Pelicans who have been better against opposing PG lately, but still get into high-scoring shootouts which should allow another big game from Walker who has scored at least 30 points in three straight and is carrying the Hornets offense right now. ∗∗∗

Jrue Holiday-New Orleans Pelicans (8,100): Holiday will get the start opposite Walker for New Orleans after returning to the lineup after another injury to Eric Gordon. He played 37 minutes against the Kings on Monday in his new role and went off for 20 points, ten assist, four rebounds, four steals, and 50.5 fantasy points. Holiday should continue to carry plenty of the Pelicans offense and is worth a look tonight even though his salary continues to climb which takes him out of the “must-play” value category. Norris Cole’s availability is also in question for tonight which could leave even more PG work for Holiday. ∗∗∗∗

Kyrie Irving-Cleveland Cavaliers (7,800): Confession–I’m not the biggest Kyrie fan. Fact–his matchup tonight makes him too good to ignore at this price.  Kyrie has scored at least 20 points in six of his last seven games and has over 33 fantasy points in seven of his last eight contests including 45 fantasy points against Memphis even in Cleveland’s embarrassing loss.  Irving finished that game with 27 points, five assists, four steals, and a pair of rebounds.  He did have seven turnovers, but his across-the-board production helped cover him.  He takes on the Kings tonight who he had 32 points, 12 assists, three boards, and a block against earlier this season and who have given up the fourth-most fantasy points in the NBA to opposing PG. I think the Cavs will be out to erase Monday’s stinker with a big game against the iffy defense of the Kings, so I like Kyrie to be one of the top PG of the day even though his price is more affordable than the elite options.∗∗∗∗∗

Goran Dragic-Miami Heat (6,800): Dragic has been much more aggressive on offense since the All Star break and it has resulted in a nice run of production for the Miami point guard. In the ten games since the break, Dragic is averaging 19.2 points, 7.4 assists, 5.4 rebounds, and 1.0 steals per game. Those numbers are a significant improvement from the 12.2 points, 5.3 assists, and 3.3 rebounds he averaged in his first 44 games of the season, and part of that is that “The Dragon” has had to carry more weight on offense in the absence of Chris Bosh.  He’ll look to continue his nice run tonight against the Bucks who have PG issues of their own after losing Michael Carter-Williams for the season.  Dragic will be looking to put up over 39 fantasy points for the fifth game in a row tonight, and if he does that he’ll be a nice return at his salary under 7K. ∗∗∗∗
