Like the situation with Miami, the Toronto Raptors could be in the market for another high-end shooting guard if their All-Star DeMar DeRozan leaves via free agency this summer. The two-time All-Star could look to play for his hometown Los Angeles Lakers, as they are emerging as the team most likely to pry DeRozan away from Ontario.

Should DeRozan leave the Raptors and Toronto general manager Masai Ujiri want to field another championship contending team like they have in 2015-16, he could look to sign Beal away from the Wizards to help offset their huge loss at the two-guard.

Beal is a better three-point shooter than DeRozan and has already made a name for himself as a great complimentary two-guard playing alongside All-Star point guard Wall in D.C. the last four years. In theory, Beal would coexist marvelously with Toronto’s All-Star point guard Kyle Lowry, perhaps better than what he has even shown with Wall in Washington.

Toronto is reluctant to blow up their highly competitive roster. Even if DeRozan walks, expect Ujiri to find a suitable replacement for him at the starting shooting guard spot. Toronto is an emerging basketball market and if Beal wants to both get paid and play for a contending team, signing with the Raptors makes the most sense. This is all contingent on DeRozan skipping town to sign with the hometown Lakers.
