1. Dallas Mavericks

Last offseason, one of the biggest stories was the saga between the Mavericks and center DeAndre Jordan. The Mavericks went after Jordan hard to pair him alongside Dirk Nowitzki to help give their star the dominant defensive center that he plays at his best next to.

When the Mavericks beat the Miami Heat in the NBA Finals, Tyson Chandler was playing at an elite level defensively, and that was the hope of pairing Jordan with Nowitzki last offseason. Jordon ultimately backed out of his deal with the Mavericks to rejoin the Clippers, and it left Dallas with a void at the center position.

Zaza Pachulia has played well for the Mavericks for most of the season, but he isn’t going to help them win a title anytime soon, and the center position is still one that will need to be upgraded for Dallas this upcoming offseason.

If the Mavericks were able to land Howard, they would instantly become one of the better teams in the Western Conference again, as Nowitzki is proving that he still has a lot of game left, and players like Chandler Parsons and Wes Matthews are excellent pieces to building a winning team. The addition of Howard might be enough to help Nowitzki get his second ring before father time comes for the future Hall-of-Famer.
