Five teams with the best chance to dethrone Alabama in the SEC
2. Les Miles and LSU could win the SEC West
After nearly being fired last season, Les Miles somehow seemed to reload this LSU team with another top-five recruiting class. With talented freshmen coming in along with Leonard Fournette and Brandon Harris, LSU has a great shot at beating Alabama and earning a shot at the SEC Championship.
This rivalry has also turned into one of the best rivalries in college football, seeing as most years they are both top ten teams. But this season could be LSU’s best shot to beat Alabama and win the SEC Championship in a while. LSU’s last SEC Championship was with the “Honey Badger” in 2011. LSU has the talent to beat Alabama and get a shot at the conference title.
Not only does LSU get Alabama at home this season, but their offense is the best they have had in a while. LSU and Les Miles have always been known for their defense, namely their defensive backs of late; Tyrann Mathieu, Morris Claiborne and Patrick Peterson all highlight LSU’s highly-touted defensive backs through the years. This season, though, will see Brandon Harris and the nation’s best running back, Leonard Fournette face Alabama more loaded than ever offensively.
Although he disappeared in the matchup last season, don’t expect Fournette to disappear again this year, being more experienced and even stronger than he was last year. Expect LSU to win at home (probably at night) and earn a right to play for their first SEC title since 2011.
