Liverpool and Borussia Dortmund were drawn against each other in the Europa League quarter-finals. Here’s five reasons Liverpool will win.

“A story only football can write.” That was Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp’s reaction to being drawn against his former club, Borussia Dortmund, in the Europa League quarter-finals.

It’s true. The only way this script could’ve been crafted more beautifully is if the two sides collided in the final instead of the quarters, but would it have been realistic to expect Liverpool to make it that far? Not really. As the past ten years have shown, Liverpool cannot be relied upon on a consistent basis for anything but disappointment.

The fact that Dortmund are even in the Europa League instead of the Champions League feels wrong, like putting the New York Yankees in AAA after one bad season. It really doesn’t feel fair.

This side would’ve been disappointed to be knocked out prior to the Champions League semifinals, let alone the Europa League quarterfinals. There’s an abundance of quality and pace in attack. The Bundlesliga side score goals from all angles and of all varieties.

Dortmund currently sit second in the German top flight, lagging just five points behind Bayern Munich but 16 points ahead of third place Hertha Berlin. They boast a goal difference of +38.

Liverpool? Well, you need to scroll down the screen to find them in the table.

They currently languish 9th in the Premier League, 22 points off the top with a painfully average goal difference of +5. Had it not been for a goal fest against an incompetent Aston Villa side, that number would be negative.

Dortmund are comfortable favorites in the tie, having just knocked out the Premier League’s second place side, Tottenham, 5-1 over two legs.

But Liverpool can win this thing. Here are five reasons why.
