Coach Calipari agrees with the idea, but this is not wise for the Wildcats

The University of Kentucky has been known to let go of students early and let them flourish in the NBA. Since being eliminated from the NCAA Tournament by Indiana, the offseason has officially begun for the Kentucky Wildcats. John Calipari is already gaining headlines according to Bleacher Report. He announced that every eligible Kentucky player will enter their names to the 2016 NBA draft pool.

The new rules for NCAA players will allow them to announce their return to school by May 25th if they aren’t officially invited to the NBA combine. The Wildcats seem to be taking advantage of the new rule. Calipari sent out a few Tweets that discussed how during the season the team comes first. After everything ends, they have time to do what they feel is right for themselves. It is a bold move for the entire team to try to make the draft.

For every player on the team to do this doesn’t quite make sense. After a disappointing playoff appearance, momentum isn’t really on their side. There are also only a few players who may be guaranteed to get drafted to the NBA. Tyler Ulis, Jamal Murray, and Skal Labissiere all have great chances to make it in the first round. The younger talent don’t have as much of a shot, and it feels like the team is abusing the system. It sounds like a fake headline, and some are reacting to it as that:

I believe the younger talent should not waste their time doing this. It would be smart for them to stay at the school for a few more years to strengthen their draft stock. Kentucky is also looking to boost their talent via recruitment, and having some extra players wouldn’t hurt.

It will be interesting to see how long Kentucky can get away with something like this. While not illegal, it doesn’t seem fair or logical for anyone involved. This could be just another headline coming from one of the best schools in the nation. We shouldn’t expect anything less. Let’s hope the younger players gain some common sense. Otherwise, this will considered a huge joke.
