5. Denver Nuggets

Draft Picks: 8th, 16th, 18th, 22nd

While the Nuggets do have their point guard of the future in 20-year-old Emmanuel Mudiay, the inconsistency Mudiay has shown provides the glaring hole of a reliable backup. They currently have that with veterans Jameer Nelson and DJ Augustin backing up the young phenom, but Augustin’s deal is up after this season. With this said, they could be on the look for a young point guard to develop behind Mudiay and Nelson.

Not only would signing a young guard make sense from a depth perspective, but the current makeup of the team would fit VanVleet well. Although it’s been a rough season for the Nuggets, they are filled with wings that can score, which is a perfect fit for a point guard that can distribute the rock. Guys like Gary Harris and Will Barton would benefit greatly.

Lastly, VanVleet would be a good fit because he brings a winning mentality. The Nuggets have suffered some rough seasons in recent years and need the right guys to create a “winning” culture. At the center of many terrific, winning seasons for the Shockers was VanVleet. You can knock his size or lack of being a freak athlete, but he is, without a doubt, a winner.
