3. New Orleans Pelicans

Draft Picks: 6th, 37th

The 2015-2016 season has turned out to be a lost year for the up-and-coming Pelicans. Despite the struggles under first-year head coach Alvin Gentry, I do believe the future is brighter than some might predict. After all, they do still possess one of the most explosive young players in Anthony Davis, albeit his health continues to be a concern. However, the point guard position is one in need of stability. Here’s a look at the current guard situation:

PG: Norris Cole, Jrue Holiday, Toney Douglas, Tim Frazier
SG: Eric Gordon, Bryce Dejean-Jones, Tyreke Evans

Holiday is signed through the 2016-17 season, while the other three will be headed for free agency. The only returning piece at shooting guard will likely be Evans, as New Orleans appears set on letting Gordon walk. This scenario provides plenty of holes and opportunities for playing time. VanVleet fits here thanks to his toughness. Simply put, the Pelicans weren’t a tough team this season. Their superstar suffered a number of different injuries and nearly every other key contributor spent extended time on the shelf.
