NFL Rumors: Bengals interested in trading A.J. McCarron?
By Josh Hill
The Cincinnati Bengals might have interest in moving backup A.J. McCarron in a QB-needy market.
This NFL offseason has seen one massive trend occur and that’s a sudden need for quarterbacks. The Broncos are Super Bowl champs but don’t have a starting quarterback. There are also questions in San Francisco, Philadelphia, St. Louis, Cleveland and the Jets still don’t have a quarterback.
What this has done is up the interest in the backup quarterback market, thanks to there being no real studs in free agency.
According to Owczarski of the Cincinnati Enquirer, the Bengals aren’t ruling out the possibility of trading A.J. McCarron given how needy the market is for quarterbacks.
While McCarron started — and almost won — a playoff game for the Bengals this past season, Cincinnati should jump at decent offer for the quarterback. The Buccaneers reportedly rejected a trade for Mike Glennon which would have netted them a second-round pick. If this is true, the Bengals need to call that team right away and make the deal Tampa Bay was too stupid to pull the trigger on, because that’s a steal for a backup.
McCarron might not be on the exact level as Glennon but neither should be kept in favor of a second or even a third rounder. Bengals fans might not have the most faith in Andy Dalton but he’s the franchise quarterback right now.
Trading McCarron for a third-rounder and picking up a veteran backup like Robert Griffin III or even Brian Hoyer seems like a decent route to go.
