Ranking starting quarterbacks for each NFL team
21. Jay Cutler, Chicago Bears
For as much heat as Cutler has taken over the years in Chicago, he put up a fairly strong season despite playing on a team that didn’t have a ton of surrounding talent. The Bears are quickly improving under general manager Ryan Pace and head coach John Fox, and Cutler may just have one more playoff run left in Chicago.
Cutler threw for just shy of 3,700 yards and 21 touchdowns while missing one game due to injury, leading the Bears to a somewhat overachieving 6-10 campaign. By both interception rate and quarterback rating, 2015 was the best full season of Cutler’s career.
That’s certainly a positive sign, as one of Cutler’s biggest problems has been turning the ball over. If Cutler can keep that interception rate down, he could put up huge numbers in 2016 with Alshon Jeffery and 2015 seventh overall pick Kevin White leading a dynamic offense.
Even with the good season, age holds Cutler back from cracking the top 20 starting quarterbacks in the league. Cutler won’t completely fall off the table yet entering his age 33 season, but there could be some regression soon.
While there have been rumors that the Bears could draft a long-term replacement for Cutler this season, it may be better to wait a year, and no prospect is going to be an upgrade over him for a while.
Next: 20. Blake Bortles, Jacksonville Jaguars
