Ranking starting quarterbacks for each NFL team
15. Joe Flacco, Baltimore Ravens
The big story this offseason in Baltimore was the Ravens’ dire cap situation, particularly in relation to Flacco’s massive contract. Flacco signed a three-year, $66 million extension in early March, freeing up enough money for Baltimore to add some much-needed receiving threats in Mike Wallace and Benjamin Watson.
Now the question is how well Flacco will respond to a devastating injury that ended his 2015 season early, a big part of a nightmare year for Baltimore. Flacco threw for 2,791 yards in 10 starts before going down with a torn ACL and MCL.
The Ravens are confident that Flacco will be ready to start Week 1 of the 2016 season, but there is always some concern coming off of such a major injury. If he’s healthy, the 31-year-old Flacco is more than capable of being a top-tier NFL quarterback.
While Flacco has been boom or bust in his NFL career, he was at his best in 2014 and always seems to turn it up a notch in the postseason. Adding at least a little bit of talent at wide receiver and tight end will help as well, as Flacco didn’t have much to work with in 2015.
However, if Flacco doesn’t recover completely from the devastating injury, the Ravens will fall far down the quarterback rankings. Ryan Mallett projects to be Flacco’s primary backup next season.
Next: 14. Derek Carr, Oakland Raiders
