5 reasons signing RGIII is great for the Cleveland Browns

3. Cleveland can now compete at quarterback in AFC North
After it became painfully obvious that 2012 Heisman Trophy winner Johnny Manziel wasn’t going to be the long-term franchise quarterback of the Browns, Cleveland has decided to buy low on another former Heisman winner in Griffin to see if he can’t hold his own against the elite quarterback division that is the AFC North.
The Pittsburgh Steelers have a future Pro Football Hall of Famer in two-time Super Bowl champion Ben Roethlisberger. The Baltimore Ravens have one of the strongest arms in the league in Super Bowl winner Joe Flacco. Even the Bengals’ signal caller, ,is capable of getting Cincinnati into the AFC Playoffs annually.
With the NFL being more of a quarterback-driven league that ever before, having a marquee playmaker at quarterback in Griffin allows the Browns to sit at the grown-ups’ table with their new starting quarterback.
Surely, the Browns have a LONG way to go before fielding a team that will win more than five games annually, but if Griffin can ignite what has been a consistently putrid offense in Cleveland, the Browns may again one day soon get back to being a relevant team in the AFC like they were in the Brian Sipe/Bernie Kosar days in the 1980s.
