1. Griffin has been humbled and is ready to win

Without question, the best part of the Browns’ decision to sign Griffin to a two-year deal to be the franchise’s next starting quarterback is that neither party really has anything to lose. Cleveland has been a laughing stock in the NFL since rejoining the league as an expansion team in 1999. Griffin has one more shot to prove that he’s an NFL quarterback.

If it works out, both the Browns and Griffin will look like geniuses for deciding to come together and build something special in Northeast Ohio. If the experiment is a complete disaster, it won’t matter because all Cleveland would lose is two years of time. For a perennially bad football team, there are worse things to lose than time.

In four years, Griffin went from the biggest star in DC, a city that already had Bryce Harper, John Wall and Alex Ovechkin, to a has-been benched in favor of his former backup quarterback. The Washington experience had to humble Griffin in some capacity. It had to have put things in perspective for the promising dual-threat passer.

If Griffin has enough foresight, realizes the magnitude of this opportunity, and most importantly, wants to tackle the beast of burden that is winning big in Cleveland, his decision to sign with the Browns could prove to be one of the greatest reclamation projects in the history of professional sports.

With both Griffin and the Browns organization at rock bottom, they’ve got both nothing left to lose and nowhere to go but up. If Griffin is up for the immense challenge of changing a football culture, then the Browns may have made their best front office decision in decades in signing the former Heisman Trophy winner.
