No. 2 Denver Broncos

It seems very rare for the Super Bowl winning team to be in utter turmoil at the quarterback position but that’s exactly where the Denver Broncos are. The team did recently trade for the former Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Mark Sanchez. However, Sanchez is not a longterm option as a starting quarterback.

The Broncos pick too high in the draft to most likely acquire a day one starter in the first round, and as a result should be monitoring the trade block.

Due to the Broncos extreme need, the pairing of AJ McCarron and the team seems highly likely.

Scheme Fit:

The Denver Broncos run a very bootleg heavy, play-action crazy offense requiring a quarterback with some wheels. While McCarron may not be the most mobile of passers, his high intelligence and arm talent should make up for his lack of a perfect scheme fit.

It’s safe to assume that McCarron would love to play for the Broncos. The Super Bowl winning team is ripe with playmakers like Demaryius Thomas, CJ Anderson, and Emmanuel Sanders. Additionally, the Broncos defense would make mistakes made by McCarron less damaging as they can create turnovers of their own.

Team Need:

Whenever a team has a first ballot Hall of Famer and his replacement leave, then that team is in a very bad place. The Denver Broncos need a quarterback badly, and they will be very desperate to plug the gaping hole that was caused by Peyton Manning and Brock Osweiler’s departures.

The Broncos need a quarterback and McCarron needs a team to start for, this trade literally almost seems like a match made in heaven.

Ability for the Broncos to acquire McCarron:

The Broncos are relying on draft picks to replace the players that left the team in free agency and to cheaply fill holes. As a result, this team needs every draft pick it can keep. However, the Broncos also badly need a quarterback.

While John Elway will not like having to trade the team’s fourth round pick to get McCarron, he will ultimately be happy with the trade when the Broncos are battling the Patriots next year for the first seed in the playoffs.
