Power Rankings: NBA Arenas
#14 – Amway Center – Orlando Magic
The Name: The only naming rights funnier than a casino are the rights given to a pyramid scheme. It gives Magic fans the impression that, every time they purchase tickets to witness their team, they are being conned. I imagine Magic executives going door-to-door with briefcases full of tickets to Magic games. 8/10 for comedy
The Aesthetics: This is a gorgeous new arena that has accessible viewing from all around the court, a fantastic video scoreboard, and although the exterior looks like a megachurch, the interior experience is what counts. The parquet floors are a nice touch, although the black-heavy color scheme is more depressing than menacing.
The Experience: The ‘Ronas & ‘Ritas open air bar is pretty awesome, and with the Amway Center centrally located in Orlando the bar gives a great view of the city. Also despite being in the center of the city, the arena has easily accessible parking. The Magic and their fans don’t provide the most electrifying experience in the NBA, but as a casual NBA experience you could do much worse.
Overview: This is a quality NBA arena despite the name, and like the American Airlines Arena provides the casual fan with a solid, commitment-free experience.
