Clemson. Mackensie Alexander. 25. player. 55.
The Steelers have one glaring need and they did not even attempt to address it in free agency. In true Pittsburgh fashion, the team punted on all of the available veterans at the cornerback spot, instead focusing on developing their young players, including a 2015 second-round pick in Senquez Golson. However, this is a team with Super Bowl aspirations and, well, they do not have a competent corps of cornerbacks to rely on right now.

Hello, Mackensie Alexander.

Alexander is not a favorite of mine when compared to the other elite corners in this class, but with the 25th overall pick, it is very tough to argue against him. Pittsburgh does not have a history of investing this highly in the position, but it is difficult to fathom a scenario where Mike Tomlin and his crew enter the season with only the talent currently on board.

Alexander’s biggest knock was a lack of “playmaking” at the college level, but that largely is a creation of the media because he did not have an interception in 2015. His ball skills are up for debate, but as a complete package, Alexander is super athletic with a willingness to play with physicality, and I think he would fit nicely with the Steelers in 2016 and beyond.
.
