The Browns agreed to a deal to bring the former Washington quarterback in this week, but in the end, that decision won’t sway us when it comes to this draft pick. With Laremy Tunsil on the board in this scenario, Cleveland would surely be tempted to take him, but banking on Robert Griffin III to be the team’s only starting QB option would be… aggressive.

With that in mind, it appears to be a coin flip between Jared Goff and North Dakota State quarterback Carson Wentz, but we lean toward Goff for the safety factor. We simply know more about Goff at this juncture as a multi-year starter in the Pac-12, and he has big-time tools that profile as a top-10 selection.

Because Goff’s Pro Day came first, the Browns have more intel on him at this point, and given his level of accuracy and what everyone describes as a very encouraging throwing motion, Cleveland could lean in his direction. However, Wentz probably presents more pure upside, and if the Browns are really searching for an elite starter in the NFL in the next five years, he could be the pick.

The lesson, as always, is that no one knows what the Browns will do in this spot (or any other spot), but letting Robert Griffin III impact their decision here would be a mistake.
. QB. California. Jared Goff
