5. player. 52.
Since the close of free agency, UCLA linebacker Myles Jack has become the “consensus” choice for the Jaguars in the event that Jalen Ramsey is off the board. There is no question that Jack would be an upgrade on the current crop of linebackers on the Jacksonville roster, but for me, he would still be something of a reach at this spot, and in the absence of Ramsey as the “perfect” fit for the Jags, a best player available choice looks like the move.

Hello, DeForest Buckner.

Jacksonville has an edge rusher of the future in last year’s first round pick, Dante Fowler, but you can never have enough talent to get after the quarterback. In addition, Buckner presents incredible size and athleticism for the position, and he can stand up against the run while simultaneously acting as a real threat to beat the opposing offensive tackle consistently. There are other more “pure” pass-rushers in Noah Spence and maybe Shaq Lawson, but they can’t match Buckner’s overall package.

It helps that Buckner is the highest remaining player on my (mythical) draft board, but he is also a nice fit and the Jaguars just need defensive talent. It makes a ton of sense.
. DE. Oregon. DeForest Buckner
