42.
Because of the geographical connection between Cal-Berkeley and San Francisco and the growing notion that Carson Wentz could land in Cleveland, the 49ers have been linked to Jared Goff more often that not. However, Goff is gone in this scenario, and everything coming out of the Chip Kelly regime suggests that Colin Kaepernick as the long term answer at quarterback in San Francisco seems far-fetched.

With Wentz, Kelly would get a more athletic option than Goff and a player that he could certainly mold into the system that he would like to deploy. For me, Wentz is the player with more upside of the two, and San Francisco would, at least in this case, benefit from the skepticism of some folks in the NFL about a player that did not play his college football at the FBS level.

Of course, the 49ers could, quite easily, pull the wool over everyone’s eyes and go elsewhere with this pick, and if that happens, UCLA linebacker Myles Jack could be in the mix along with a few more defensive options. San Francisco is a place that has been mired in controversy for a long time, but taking a quality quarterback would do a lot to ease concerns over the organizational direction.
. QB.
