8. player. 54.
We’ve got a trade!

Until this point in our mock drafts, the 8th overall pick has been executed by the Miami Dolphins, but after a trade involving multiple players headed to Miami, the Philadelphia Eagles are on the clock at this spot. While the Eagles have been linked to offensive line help throughout the process (hello, Jack Conklin), a move to this particular draft slot opens things up for the new regime, and that means a long, hard look at Ezekiel Elliott.

Eagles head coach Doug Pederson arrives from Kansas City, where he has had an every-down stud at the running back spot in Jamaal Charles. By taking Elliott, Pederson and company would have a piece to build around offensively from the first moment of the first game, and with some uncertainty at quarterback long-term with Sam Bradford and Chase Daniel as the competitors for the job, Philadelphia could use that level of talent in the backfield.

This has become something of a cliche projection in the aftermath of the deal, but that does not make it any less possible or indicate a move that makes any less sense. No running back should ever be drafted in the top ten from a value perspective, but Elliott’s off-the-charts testing has placed him in that elite tier and somebody will take him. It might as well be the Eagles.
. RB. Ohio State. Ezekiel Elliott
