High Salary Defensemen

Brent Burns – San Jose Sharks ($8,400): Burns had two assists last night against the Kings and he will play the Canucks (three points in three games against them) tonight. He has a three-game point streak and tonight he will look to make it four. Burns has 26 goals, 47 assists, 73 points, 134 blocked shots, and 329 shots on goal this season. He has two goals, seven assists, nine points, 11 blocked shots, and 44 shots on goal over his last 10 games. Burns averages 5.2 fantasy hockey points per game.

Roman Josi – Nashville Predators ($7,100): Josi has at least one point in five of his last six games and has 10 points, 15 blocked shots, and 29 shots on goal over his last 10 games. He has 14 goals, 44 assists, 58 points, 175 blocked shots, and 185 shots on goal this season as he has surpassed Shea Weber as the Predators best defenseman. Josi averages 4.1 fantasy points per game.

Kris Letang – Pittsburgh Penguins ($7,000): Letang has 16 goals, 43 assists, 59 points, 109 blocked shots, and 201 shots on goal this season in 66 games. Over his last 10 games, he has four goals, four assists, eight points, 16 blocked shots, and 30 shots on goal. Letang has at least one point in four of his last five games and he has 31 points in 32 home games this season. The Penguins blue liner averages 4.3 fantasy hockey points per game.

High Value Defensemen

Francois Beauchemin – Colorado Avalanche ($5,800): Beauchemin leads the league in blocked shots, making him a viable start virtually any night. He has 33 points (seven goals and 26 assists), 246 blocked shots, and 117 shots on goal this season in 76 games. Over his last 10 games, Beauchemin has five assists, 41 blocked shots, and 14 shots on goal. He will go tonight against the Blues, who he averages three fantasy points per game against. The Avalanche defenseman averages 3.4 fantasy hockey points per game.

Mike Green – Detroit Red Wings ($5,100): Green has been quietly productive this season for Detroit. He has five goals, 26 assists, 31 points, 68 blocked shots, and 116 shots on goal in 68 games this season. Over his last 10 games, Green has five points (all of them within his last seven outings), five blocked shots, and 14 shots on goal. He’ll go tonight against Montreal, who he has two assists in three games against. The Red Wings defenseman averages 2.3 fantasy hockey points per game.
