#30: Bill Peters

Bill Peters of the Carolina Hurricanes has been giving a bad deck of cards during his career. He started his tenure as the Hurricanes head coach in 2015. Peters has a career record of 61-69-25, which isn’t too bad when one considers the lack of talent that Carolina has had during his tenure. However, there is one stat that makes him the worst coach in the NHL.

Peters is the only head coach in the league who has a career point percentage of below .500. Even coaches like Dave Tippett and John Tortorella have been able to muster a career record of at least .500. It’s likely that Peters will improve on the list as he gets more talent around him and he deserves credit for helping the Hurricanes contend for a playoff spot for most of this season until Eric Staal and Kris Versteeg were traded.

His job is most likely safe. He has done a good job developing the Canes young talent and ownership has been patient with him. At some point though, Peters has to start winning because there are some tempting head coach candidates out there and the NHL is a “what have you done for me lately” league. He hasn’t done much for the Canes lately in terms of winning.
