#6: Barry Trotz

The Washington Capitals got a gem when they hired Barry Trotz in 2014. Trotz was tasked with giving the Capitals structure and with helping the Capitals win a Stanley Cup. While the second reason has yet to be fulfilled, he has done the first flawlessly. This has resulted in the most dominant hockey team that the NHL has seen in years with the 2015-2016 Capitals. A perfect blend of offense and defense, the Caps look like they could bring a Stanley Cup to the nation’s capital.

Trotz has been excellent with keeping the Capitals level-headed during his tenure. Some teams morale operate like a roller coaster – they go up, they go down, they’re all over the place. Under Barry Trotz, the Capitals have been very level-headed and it’s something that has served them quite well. Trotz has given the Capitals the structure and the confidence that they needed to return the playoffs last season and to make a deep playoff run this season.

He has also assembled an impressive NHL coaching staff. It would be insulting to not mention the work that his goalie guru Mitch Korn has done in giving Braden Holtby the confidence that he needed to be an elite goaltender.
