Kansas City Royals—Wade Davis

Picking one above all when it comes to the Kansas City Royals is a difficult proposition, mainly because there is no team that is more balanced than the World Champs are across the board. In the everyday roster, no one specific player is more important than the others—which is their strength. Conversely on their pitching staff, there is no true ‘ace’ that is head and shoulders above the rest of the pitching staff either.

However, at the backend of the formidable Royals’ pen looms Wade Davis, who has fortified himself as most lights out reliever in all of the game over the past few years. Since moving to the KC bullpen before the 2014 campaign, Davis has been the stingiest pitcher in the game, allowing 16 runs across 100 innings over the regular and postseason. That is good for a 0.88 ERA, which was afforded by holding opponents to a .221 on-base percentage and 225 total strikeouts in 164.1 innings.

That is dominance, defined. And it is also a level he has sustained a level at while making the jump from setup man to closer during the second half of 2015. Davis is the definitive door closer in the game today, and the most pivotal weapon the Royals have in their sizable arsenal.
