New York Yankees—Alex Rodriguez

Quite the ride it is been for one Alexander Emmanuel Rodriguez over the past 22 years, to say the least. From teenage top pick prodigy, to record-setting Most Valuable Player, to outcast pariah of the game, A-Rod has certainly worn more hats than perhaps any other player in history.

However, the one that he is currently adorning for the Yankees is perhaps the most unforeseen one of all: still being the top guy in pinstripes. Rodriguez came back from his mandatory year off in 2014 and took the game by complete surprise by showing no signs of rust, and actually playing his best baseball in years. His return from baseball Siberia included leading the Yankees in home runs and on-base plus slugging percentage. He also hit his 600th career homer and gained his 3,000th hit as well.

Rodriguez proved not only that he still has it, but also that the Yankees are without a doubt far better with him than without him. As the injuries piled up around him and the team adjusted to life after Jeter, A-Rod was the constant presence for the Yanks, helping to propel them back to the postseason for the first time since 2012.
