Boston Bruins – Zdeno Chara

The Boston Bruins have several potential future hall of famers. Center Patrice Bergeron is constantly updating his resume with Selke Trophies and head coach Claude Julien is highly respected around the NHL. Their most likely one is none other than their captain, defenseman Zdeno Chara.

Chara will go into the Hockey Hall of Fame for several reasons. First of all, his NHL career has been a glorious one. Chara is one of the best stay at home defensemen that the league has ever seen. He might only have one Norris Trophy on his resume, but he has finished in the top 10 nine times in his 18 year career (all nine times have come in the past 13 seasons). Keep in mind that he had to compete with the likes of Duncan Keith, Erik Karlsson, P.K. Subban, and of course Nicklas Lidstrom.

It’s important to note that he was the second non-North American defenseman to win a Norris Trophy (the first being Lidstrom) because Chara’s influence on the NHL and hockey at a global level might be even larger than his 6’9″ frame. Chara has served as a mentor and a hero to many young European players. He is arguably Slovakia’s greatest player of all team, leading them to two silver medals in the World Championships.
