Calgary Flames – Mark Giordano

The Calgary Flames are another young NHL team without many candidates. As fun as it is to watch Johnny Gaudreau dance and dangle around the ice like a figure skater, this is just his second season so it’s hard to say if he’ll be a future hall of famer (though he is certainly on the right path). Even their head coach Bob Hartley hasn’t had much success once you look past his one Stanley Cup win. The only logical candidate? Defenseman Mark Giordano.

Giordano’s Hall of Fame case could get very interesting if he keeps on producing at an impressive rate. He will most likely need to win at least one Norris Trophy, even if voters agree with the theory that he would most likely have two Norris Trophies had he stayed healthy in 2013-2014 and 2014-2015. Because he didn’t bloom until he reached 30 years old, Giordano will have to make himself the Sandy Koufax of the NHL to get into the Hall of Fame. He would have to put together numbers that are so impressive that even though his prime might have been short, his prime would have to rank among the best of all-time.

While Mark Giordano might not have that strong of a Hall of Fame case now, things could get mighty interesting if Giordano can win a Norris Trophy or two and keep on being one of the best defensemen in the NHL as he ages. Working in his favor is that he is currently averaging over 0.50 points per game for his career. That’s something special in today’s NHL.
