No. 2 – Los Angeles Lakers

When you’re done laughing, just think about it for a moment: The Lakers are losing their most popular player during what is looking like it will be the worst season in the history of the franchise. They have shown they aren’t afraid to spend money to get players, but they still might not be the favorite to land top free agents this summer.

In recent days, the controversy surrounding D’Angelo Russell and Nick Young has made the Lakers a player in trying to move one or both of those players. A Butler for Russell trade might be tempting for the Bulls, while getting rid of Young would require the Lakers to give up more as well.

Jimmy Butler has become a star in one of the biggest cities in the NBA, so he wouldn’t be shocked by the bright lights of La-La land. Going from the shadows of Michael Jordan to the shadows of Kobe, Shaq and Magic would be just a lateral move, so don’t be surprised if the Lakers become more of a player in getting Butler to come to town both as a star on his own or as a piece of the puzzle with some free agents.
