The Browns have a couple of picks in the fourth round, and with the first of their picks, the team should try to fill the hole on their offensive line. If the Browns draft Brandon Shell from South Carolina, the team will be drafting a player that simply looks the part of an NFL offensive linemen.

Shell played right tackle his first three years at South Carolina. During his time at right tackle, he displayed excellent traits, such as the ability to lock onto a defender and do his very best to keep him out of the back field. When watching Shell, it was quite common to see him push a defender ten yards past the line of scrimmage on run plays.

During Shell’s senior year he became the team’s left tackle and it was here that he protected his quarterback’s blind side. Shell did well at left tackle, but he seemed a much more natural fit at right tackle. If drafted by the Browns, he should be able to take over the right tackle spot fairly easily due to the departure of Mitchell Schwartz.

The main reason that Shell is considered a fourth round talent is due to his slow second step. Shell correctly kicks out to cover edge rushers, but after his first step is a little slow to follow through with getting his feet set. In college, a slow second step did not affect his play. However, in the NFL is Shell wants to become a franchise right tackle, then he will need to become consistently better at getting into his stance faster.
