Kentucky. Skal Labissiere. 16. player. 18.
Kentucky’s Skal Labissiere failed to live up to sky-high expectations as a freshman after entering the season ranked above Ben Simmons on many recruiting boards. Labissiere played 15.8 minutes per game and averaged 6.6 points and 3.1 rebounds, but his per 40 minute numbers (16.7 points and 8.0 rebounds) suggest that he could have been a more productive player had he not averaged 7.6 personal fouls per 40 minutes.

Labissiere is a smooth and mobile big man with an excellent looking jump shot that can help space the floor. Wildcats’ head coach John Calipari initially forced Labissiere to play in the post in order to attempt to bring some toughness to his game, but once that failed and Calipari allowed Labissiere to operate in more space, the freshman became more successful on the offensive end. His 7-2 wingspan and 4.2 blocks per 40 minutes suggest that Labissiere may also be a serviceable rim protector at the next level. Few big men will offer the combination of mobility and shot blocking that Labissiere can provide.

Plus, if there is one coach with a pick in the teens I would trust to figure out how to use a highly talented big man that has yet to live up to his potential, it’s Brad Stevens.

To learn more about Skal Labissiere, <a href=.
