Jordan Spieth leads the field in the clubhouse after he finishes round one of The Masters.

Jordan Spieth is defending his Masters win from last year and, if round one is any sign of what is to come, he could take home the green jacket for the second year in a row. Despite winning the Master’s last year as the second youngest to do so, he dominated the field. This year seems to be no different.

Although Paul Casey, his playing partner, kept up with him in the first round, Spieth already has a Master’s under his belt, giving him the experience that most golfers never get, especially at his age.

Leaderboard with Spieth in the clubhouse:

Spieth: -6 through 18

Bubba Watson: -3 through 8

Jason Day: -3 through 7

Lee Westwood: -1 through 18

Hunter Mahan: -1 through 8

Spieth has defended his jacket by going bogey-free in the first round, with multiple par saves with his putter in hand. His putter has proven to be one of the best parts of his game in his early career, having six birdies and 12 pars. With birdies on 3, 6, 8, 10, 13 and 18 he went -3 on the front nine and back nine.

Spieth has proven that he is one of the best young golfers in the world, along with Jason Day and Rory McIlroy, who could all end up winning the Master’s this year. Day is 10 holes back from Spieth but has posted a score of -3 thus far, while McIlroy began his day while Spieth was wrapping his up.

Jordan Spieth will look to hold off his fellow competitors on Friday as his tee time will be later in the day, starting at 12:55. A solid, mistake-free first round of 66 from Spieth has him in the clubhouse with a three-stroke lead.
