When the Cleveland Browns drafted Bernie Kosar with the first pick in the 1985 supplemental draft, they selected a player that quickly became a beloved figure to fans of the franchise.

While Kosar never was a great quarterback, he led the Browns to the AFC championship game in 1987. It was Kosar’s solid play, and ability to not turn the football over that made Kosar such a good quarterback for the Browns.

However, injuries derailed Kosar’s promising career. By the 1992 season, new Browns head coach Bill Belichick released Kosar from the team after a rough loss in Week 8.

After being released, Kosar primarily became a backup quarterback for teams with elite quarterbacks. In fact, Kosar won a super bowl with the Dallas Cowboys while serving as Troy Aikman’s backup.

It is worth noting that Kosar did previously hold the record for completed passes without an interception (308). The record was held by Kosar until Tom Brady smashed the record in 2010.

Although Kosar never won the Browns a super bowl, he is so dearly loved by Browns fans as many regard him as the best Browns quarterback in the past 30 years.
