Green Bay Packers: 5 best NFL Draft picks of all-time
Bart Starr (1956: 17th round, 200th overall)
Throughout Green Bay Packers history, the organization has been blessed with some of the most recognizable quarterbacks that the NFL has ever seen.
During the 1990’s and early 2000’s, Brett Favre was one of the most dominant quarterbacks in NFL history, winning three consecutive MVP Awards, making 11 Pro Bowl appearances and retiring as the league’s all-time leader in passing yards and passing touchdowns. Currently, Aaron Rodgers is making a strong case to go down as one of the best ever at the position.
But while Favre and Rodgers have compiled a long list of accolades that will cement their place in NFL history, their one Super Bowl victory each pales in comparison to what Bart Starr was able to accomplish.
Starr played his entire 16-year career in Green Bay, and was the starting quarterback for all five championship runs of the 1960’s. The only thing that keeps the legendary signal-caller out of the No. 1 spot on this list is the fact that he played with a supporting cast that included 10 other Hall of Famers, and was typically not relied upon to carry his team.
As the the 200th overall selection in the 17th round of the 1956 draft, Starr is undoubtedly the biggest draft steal in Packers’ history.
