High Value SG

Monta Ellis-Indiana Pacers (5,600): Indiana can get into the playoffs with a win at home tonight against the Nets. Brooklyn has allowed the  second-most fantasy points in the NBA to opposing SG this season, so the matchup should be one that plays in Monta’s favor. Ellis has oddly averaged just 5.3 points and 5.3 assists against the Nets this season even though he has logged 32.3 minutes per game the three times he has faced them.  Ellis will look to have a much better game than that tonight after putting up 28.75 fantasy points on Friday in a surprising loss to Toronto who was playing all their backups.  Ellis has been a volatile option all season, and lately he has at least 25 fantasy points in seven of his last ten while also throwing in a few duds like his 11-fantasy-point performance against Brooklyn back on March 26.  The very next game, Ellis bounced back with 48.5 fantasy points, so the potential for production is definitely there if he and the Pacers can get their game in gear and wrap up their playoff spot tonight.∗∗

Rodney Hood-Utah Jazz (5,200): Alec Burks returned to action on Friday after missing several months with an ankle injury and could pose a threat to Hood’s playing time once he’s fully up to speed. However, in that game on Friday, Hood played 46 minutes in the Jazz’ OT defeat showing he still has a stranglehold on most of the minutes at SG right now for Utah.  Tonight, he’ll be in a good matchup against the Nuggets who have allowed the third-most fantasy points in the NBA to opposing SG even though Hood hasn’t been able to post a huge game against them. Hood had at least 27 fantasy points in five straight before finishing with just 23.25 on Friday, and I think he’ll be back in the high 20’s tonight in Denver with 30+ fantasy points a good possibility as well.

Wesley Matthews-Dallas Mavericks (4,900): With Deron Williams out and J.J. Barea possibly sitting out this afternoon’s game as well, the Mavs will need some solid scoring from Matthews and Raymond Felton if they want to contend with the Clippers in LA. Matthews had just 16 fantasy points on Friday despite playing 44 minutes against the Grizzlies.  He’ll need to be more aggressive today, and if he is I think he’ll return to the level he was producing at before Friday’s game.  Before that letdown, Matthews had over 26 fantasy points in eight of his previous nine games.  He should return at least 25+ fantasy points if you invest in him this afternoon as he assumes a larger role in the injury-riddled Dallas attack. ∗∗∗

Evan Fournier-Orlando Magic (4,700): With Victor Oladipo out, Fournier will need to help pick up the scoring slack for Orlando tonight against the Heat. Fournier had a huge game against them on Friday with 28 points, seven rebounds, and seven assists for an impressive 48.75 fantasy points in his 46 minutes.  He’ll be lined up for a big workload again tonight and should be able to get 25+ fantasy points fairly easily even if he isn’t quite able to get back to his massive numbers from Friday’s game.

Raymond Felton-Dallas Mavericks (4,600): J.J. Barea is officially questionable, but I think its unlikely he plays today against the Clippers leaving Felton to step in for the Mavs at PG. Felton only made 3-12 from the field against Memphis on Friday but passed out 14 assists to dow with two steals and six rebounds for a total of 44 fantasy points. If he gets expanded playing time today, he could be a very nice value alongside Matthews in the Dallas backcourt. Matthews has more scoring potential, but Felton is a more multi-category threat if he starts. If starting-

Josh Richardson-Miami Heat (4,000): Richardson had 29.75 fantasy points on Friday against Orlando playing 33 minutes off the bench and contributing 13 points, five rebounds, four assists, a block, and a steal.  Tonight, he could get the same amount of work since Miami will try to guy all the rest it can for Dwyane Wade coming down the stretch even though they’re still trying to secure home court advantage.  Richardson has scored in double digits in seven of his last nine games and has three games during that span with over 26 fantasy points. He isn’t a lock, but I like the matchup and the playing time I think he’s lined up for even though he’s coming off the bench.

Sean Kilpatrick-Brooklyn Nets (3,600): Kilpatrick has scored 15 points or more in each of the Nets last four games and continues to be their “instant offense” option off the bench.  Kilpatrick had 14 points when he faced the Pacers two weeks ago, and he’ll look to continue his point production tonight as he faced Indiana again.  Kilpatrick’s non-scoring numbers are inconsistent, but he does have two games with over 24 fantasy points in his last four making him worth a look as an ultra-cheap option at SG tonight.

Mario Hezonja-Orlando Magic (3,300): Oladipo’s absence tonight also means a start for Super Mario who has flashed tons of upside when given the chance for Orlando.  If you have to go all the way to almost the minimum at SG tonight, Hezonja is one of the more potential-laden options at this price anywhere on the board tonight.  He has plenty of game, and he’ll get the chance to step up tonight as the Magic take on the Heat in Miami.
