Jacksonville Jaguars: 5 best draft picks all-time
By John Buhler
The Jaguars made a fantastic first-ever draft choice when they selected USC offensive tackle Tony Boselli No. 2 overall in the 1995 NFL Draft. Boselli played seven outstanding seasons in Jacksonville from 1995 to 2001 before injuries cut his great career short in 2002.
Boselli went to five Pro Bowls (1996-2000), earned three All-Pro first team selections (1997-99), was named Offensive Lineman of the Year in 1998, made the 1990s NFL All-Decade Team, and is a proud member of the Pride of the Jaguars for his outstanding contributions in Jacksonville.
Boselli’s excellence at tackle allowed quarterback Mark Brunell to move the chains effectively during the Tom Coughlin era. Boselli is one of the most popular players to have ever played for the Jaguars. He earned enshrinement in the College Football Hall of Fame in 2014 and has been in discussion for a few years about being a Pro Football Hall of Famer.
While many expansion teams used their first ever pick on a starting quarterback (Houston with David Carr, Cleveland with Tim Couch), Jacksonville clearly made the right decision in drafting Boselli out of USC to anchor their strong offensive line. Boselli was a huge reason that Jacksonville had great success in their infancy as an NFL franchise.
