Minnesota Vikings mock draft: Complete 7-round edition
The Vikings recently signed offensive guard Alex Boone and right tackle Andre Smith, but no one can be satisfied without depth. Adding a talented guard like Vadal Alexander in the second round would provide nice depth in the short term, while Alexander could eventually ease himself into the starting role.
The 6-foot-5, 326-pound guard from LSU helped lead one of the best run games in the country in 2015, blocking for Leonard Fournette. Given Adrian Peterson’s advancing age, and the need that will soon create to move in a new direction at running back, Alexander could be a stud on the line for the next few years, and would ease the pain of replacing AP.
Although he’s not great in pass protection, he can absolutely bully defenders when run blocking. He’s so strong that he just runs through defensive linemen, linebackers and defensive backs while leading the way for his running back.
Alexander earned second-team All-American honors as a senior in 2015 as well as first-team All-SEC votes. He was a right tackle for the Tigers, but translates better into the NFL as a guard. He may struggle a bit with too much space in pass protection, but the Vikings can remain a solid run team with him on the line.
